Under the supervision of Sanford PROMISE, here is a glimpse of classroom 101 “researchers” extracting strawberry DNA!

This week, Sanford PROMISE, a division of Sanford Research visited first grade classrooms. Minus the white lab coat, students turned into researchers and extracted DNA from strawberries! Here’s a glimpse of the experience from classrooms 103, 104, and 106.

Classroom 103 is learning about patterns in the sky and how the moon changes. They recreated the eight moon phases with Oreos!

Classroom 503 created their own terrariums that they will continue to observe throughout their ecosystems’ science unit. Students planted grass and alfalfa seeds in their terrariums.

With the warmer weather, more students are walking and riding bikes/scooters to school. Please slow down and pay attention!

Please see our "Keeping You Informed" at https://secure.smore.com/n/g5xcy for reminders and school-related information!

Classroom 502 is learning about ecosystems and the food chain. They made their own mini ecosystems/terrariums!

The 4th Annual Everybody Reads is officially underway for the month of March! Everybody Reads is a collaborative initiative with Siouxland Libraries designed to inspire a love of reading in SFSD schools and the broader community. This year’s theme is "Reach for a Sweet Read." The SFSD’s goal is to have 350,000 books read by March 31. If the goal is reached, the SFSD will donate to its friends at Reach Literacy. At Discovery, for every book logged a piece of gum will be added to our candy machine!
This week is also “Read Across America Week”. There are school wide activities that students are doing in the classroom, along with a bookmark contest, and pajama day on Friday! #todayareadertomorrowaleader

Happy Social Worker Week!
In the Sioux Falls School District, every student's journey is unique. For many of the kids we serve, our school social workers are there every step of the way! Whether offering a listening ear, connecting families to resources, or advocating for students' well-being, their dedication ignites hope and creates lasting impact in our schools.
This year's theme, Unite to Ignite: Celebrating Our Impact, is a perfect reflection of how our social workers bring people together to create brighter futures for students.
THANK YOU to our incredible school social workers for your compassion and care!

A big THANK YOU to these classroom 405 students that helped the office with a project during their lunch - we appreciate you!
