Cadets from the SD-20221st Cadet Group, RHS AFJROTC recently spent the day out at the Sioux Falls airport getting familiar with the ins and outs of small aircraft and flight operations. The day was the latest of the AFJROTC’s “Curriculum-In-Action” field trips where cadets have a chance to get out and experience real-world examples of what is being covered in their Aerospace Science or Leadership Education classes.
Thirty-two cadets were on hand that Saturday to learn about the Civil Air Patrol’s aviation program and search & rescue operations. During the day, the cadets were able to walk around the aircraft and familiarize themselves with its components and safety features. After that, each cadet had the opportunity to take off and fly over southeastern South Dakota as part of a 1 ½ - 2 hour orientation flight where they were allowed to control the aircraft while learning about the physical science of flight, aircraft control and flight maneuvers. More than a few future pilots felt the “need for speed” that day and a huge thank you goes out to the SD Civil Air Patrol for making this incredible opportunity happen! #AFJROTC #JROTC
