SFSD schools start 2-hrs late Thursday, January 5, 2023.
Due to the amount of snow that fell with this winter storm and the time it will take for plows to get into residential neighborhoods, there will be No School, no practices and no activities tomorrow – Wednesday, January 4, 2023. District and school offices will be open.
In addition to there being NO SCHOOL today, an update now includes that SFSD Offices will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan 3, 2023.
Reminder! Lost and found items not claimed by 3:00 pm tomorrow, December 21, will be donated. Parents/guardians are welcome to come look for lost items.
Reminder! When the temperature and/or wind chill is zero or below, students will not go outside for recess. Students will be inside before school, and Safety Patrol students will not be outside.
A huge shoutout and thank you to our PTO! They provided hot chocolate and apple cider for staff on Monday. What a great way to start the week!

Classroom K01 has been learning about labeling illustrations while talking about proper recess gear during the winter. Cold Chris is wearing pants, a t-shirt, no hat, and bare hands. Warm Wilma has a coat, snow pants, mittens, scarf, hat, and boots. Warm Wilma is ready for recess at Discovery! Great job coloring, K01 students!

Wow, way to go Discovery! We not only reached our goal - we exceeded it! We collected 1,412 pairs of socks for the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House here in Sioux Falls. Thank you Discovery students and families for your generosity!
And with a blink of an eye, we are already a quarter way through the 2022-2023 school year! The second quarter is here, and it’s a busy one! While this time of year tends to get chaotic, it’s important to remember how crucial student attendance is. Chronic absenteeism is a serious problem in South Dakota - a problem SFSD is committed to improving. Missing just two days a month can hurt a student’s grades and increase their chance of dropping out. Make sure your student is on the path to a bright future – and that starts in the classroom!
