With Valentines Day coming up, love and kindness is in the air! So, Discovery is having Kindness Week February 10 - 14 with dress up days and activities. Kindness is free - so let’s sprinkle that stuff everywhere!

After classroom K05 read “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" by Mo Willems, students made their own pigeons! A bus driver begins the story by expressing to readers the importance of not letting the pigeon drive the bus while he is gone. The story teaches the reader about promises and persuasion.

In classroom 402 science studies, students explored the fascinating ways plants and animals are designed for survival. As part of the investigation, students examined the skulls and pelts of carnivores and herbivores. They discussed how differences in their teeth - sharp for tearing meat or flat for grinding plants - help them meet their needs. The pelts revealed how fur and skin can offer protection, camouflage, and temperature regulation - all essential for survival in different environments. Students also observed how the placement of their eyes contributes to their survival, providing an advantage in spotting prey or predators. These activities helped students understand how both internal and external structures are perfectly suited for each animal’s way of life.

Ms. Knight and these 5th grade students are reading and discussing the book, “Alexandra the Brave” by Joy S. Noyes. The students were sharing their interpretations of the book. As American journalist Margaret Fuller once said, “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”

Discovery is having a “DreamBox Challenge” starting today through January 31. Lessons done at home and school count. Total lessons will be collected every Thursday/Friday with weekly winners:
- The classroom from each grade level with the most lessons will win a treat!
- The students with the most from each grade level that week will get to pick a prize from the prize room!
For the grand finale, the two classrooms that completed the most lessons by January 31 will receive a pizza party! It will be one classroom from KG - 2nd and one classroom from 3rd – 5th.
Good luck, Discovery!
