A little treat to show our appreciation for our counselors during National School Counselors Week! Thank you, Mrs. Jacee Johnson and Mrs. Karmyn Marchand for ALL that you do!

Is your 5-year-old ready for the rigors of Kindergarten? Get all of your questions answered Tues, Feb 13 at Susan B. Anthony Elementary. Families from all SFSD schools are welcome!

The official online registration for 2024-25 Kindergarten is now open! There are two registration options – one is for new families, and one is for current families. The online registration is NOT mobile friendly. Please complete it on a laptop, desktop, or Chromebook. There are Chromebooks available in the Discovery office.
- NEW FAMILIES (no students in SFSD): Go to https://www.sf.k12.sd.us/page/school-registration and select “Enroll in Sioux Falls School District – New Families." Make sure you select the 24-25 school year, or you will have to start over.
- EXISTING FAMILIES (with students in SFSD): You will register through your Parent Portal. Go to https://www.sf.k12.sd.us/page/school-registration and scroll down and select Parent Portal. You will select “KG and New Student Registration."

This is an optional, informational SFSD event for parents that have a child that is eligible to start kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year. You will learn what a day in the life of a kindergartner looks like and have the opportunity to ask questions.

We have several items in our "Lost & Found". Items not claimed by the end of Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, February 8, will be donated on Friday, February 9. Please look for lost items during parent teacher conferences, otherwise you can look during school hours by checking in at the office.

The PTO still needs several volunteers for the Spring Book Fair, which is during parent teacher conferences next week. If they do not get enough volunteers, the book fair will be CANCELLED. Please consider signing up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C44ADAD2CA3FF2-47326985-spring?useFullSite=true#/.

A new visitor check-in system has been implemented. You will check yourself in on an iPad using the new platform.
The first time checking in, the platform will prompt you to take a photo of the front of your ID and then it will prompt you to scan the back of your ID. The next time you check-in, you will not have to present your ID - that is a one-time step. We will no longer keep your ID.
Every time you check-in and check-out, your photo will be taken. The platform utilizes facial recognition software.
We have instructions posted; however, clerical will be available to assist.

It's our annual Souperbowl Food Drive! From January 29 through February 9, we are collecting non-perishable food items for Feeding South Dakota. The grade that brings in the most donations will get to choose between a movie party or a Cloud 9 party. Let's go, Discovery!

Last week during classroom 506’s morning meeting, the class talked about being kind. The conversation led to the class writing a positive note for every Discovery staff member! The note was placed on the staff member’s mailbox. What a kind and heart-felt activity. Thank you, classroom 506 and keep being you!

Shout-out to these students! While using the book vending machine, an extra book came out. The students turned in the book at the office. Thank you for doing the right thing! As the saying goes, “Do the right thing even when no one is looking.”

A HUGE shoutout to our custodian, Chris! Thank you for keeping our sidewalks clear and safe - we appreciate you!

PTO needs several volunteers to help with their Pizza Bingo event on Friday, January 19. Unfortunately, if they do not have enough volunteers, they will have to cancel the event.
To volunteer, sign-up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C44ADAD2CA3FF2-47099784-pizza?useFullSite=true#/. Students are welcome to volunteer; however, if under the age of 13 they must be accompanied by an adult.
Please help us make this event a success; thank you!
